cal: .30, semi-auto, (1) mag marked "K-IP", sn: 1770750, from Mr. Davis's records: I purchased this rifle from George Kopp, a club member, in March 2002. I paid $200 for the rifle. Irwin Pederson company is the rarest of the M1 carbine manufacturers. They built less than one per cent of the production. This rifle was arsenal rebuilt after the war, the rebuild mark on the stock is og which stands for Ogden Utah arsenal. Then it was sold through the DCM program. That is how George Kopp came to own it. This is a value added Carbine because of the company that manufactured it. It does have the correct type stock as listed in “War Baby” a collector’s guide to the carbine; the stock is marked s’g’ which is the mark for Saginaw gear in Grand Rapids, Michigan. That company finished the Irwin Pederson contract. It is in the first block of serial numbers given to the company. The barrel is marked Underwood which is correct for this manufacturer. Many internal parts are correct. I replaced the recoil plate with a correct one marked I P the mark is faint but you can see it. This is a cost effective addition. The trigger group is marked s’ g’ for Saginaw Gear the company that took over the I P contract. The magazine latch is marked M with a line under it. The hammer is marked LT-Q. which stands for Quality Hardware. It has a flip safety. The slide is marked s’g’ as it should be, the mark is faint but visible. The bolt is flat and has the s’g’ marked on the left lug. The rear sight is the post war stamped type marked I R C O 160060.The butt plate is marked PM-IP as it should be for Irwin Pederson.
