M-38 Izhevsk Arsenal 7.62x54mm Rifle
Lot 11: M-38 Izhevsk Arsenal 7.62x54mm Rifle

cal: 7.62x54mm, bolt-action, barrel: 20", flip up rear adjustable sight, receiver marked "1945", In 1938 a carbine was adopted as the "7,62 mm Carbine, Model of the Year 1938" , commonly known as the M38 in the US, but did not go into production until 1939 . It is essentially a shorter version of the M91 /30 and was built at Izhevsk until 1945. There was limited production at Tula in 1940 and again in 1944. Both arsenals built some M38s on recycled receivers, both hex and round. Tula M38s are uncommon at the least and sought after by collectors as are 1939 and 1945 dated examples. The M38 was not designed to accept a bayonet since it's intended use was by rear area troops. Laminated stock production in the Soviet Union began with the M38, but true laminated M38 stocks without the M44 bayonet groove are uncommon. This is a desirable 1945 example with a laminated stock. sn: FF1802, Note: $25 transfer fee per firearm applies even if buyer has FFL

M-44 Izhevsk Arsenal 7.62x54mm Rifle
Lot 13: M-44 Izhevsk Arsenal 7.62x54mm Rifle

cal: 7.62x54mm, bolt-action, barrel: 20", flip up rear adjustable sight, receiver marked "1943", In 1943 some 50,000 trials carbines were built and tested in battle. They are essentially an M38 with an attached side-folding bayonet and were adopted in I 944 as the "7,62 mm Carbine, Model of the Year 1944 ", commonly known as the M44 in the US. Production at Izhevsk continued until 1948 while Tula was limited to a small number in 1944. Tula, and hex receiver examples are less common and more sought after by collectors. Minor changes occurred during production with two primary types of bayonet locking systems and an early and late type of front sight. The laminated type of stock first developed for M38s was used extensively on M44s. This example is a rare first year production trials carbine, folding bayonet, sn: 13871, Note: $25 transfer fee per firearm applies even if buyer has FFL
