Davis Lifetime Gun Collection (Vintage Military Firearms & Memorabilia) - 1/2 - Beckort Auctions, LLC

Davis Lifetime Gun Collection (Vintage Military Firearms & Memorabilia) - 1/2

Charlie C. Davis was a lifelong educator and community leader from Ramsey, Indiana. After graduating from North Central High School in 1958 and earning bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana University, he returned home to teach social studies at North Harrison, later serving as assistant principal and principal.

Deeply involved in his community, Charlie helped establish the Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department and Ramsey Water Corporation, served as president of the Old Lake Club, and was a longtime member and president of the Southern Indiana Rifle and Pistol Club.

A passionate student of military history, Charlie built an extensive collection of World War II artifacts, carefully documenting each item and preserving pieces of American military heritage. An accomplished competitive shooter, he traveled nationwide for matches, including the National Matches at Camp Perry, and remained active in pistol and rifle competitions throughout his life. He also enjoyed annual prairie dog hunting trips to Montana and Wyoming.

Charlie took great pride in his collection, and his family hopes it will be preserved by those who appreciate both its historical significance and the dedication of the man who spent a lifetime building it.

cal: .45, semi-auto, (1) mag, barrel: 5", RH receiver marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY, sn: 2085566, from Mr. Davis's records, The pistol has all the proper marks on the frame, slide, and barrel. The correct inspector initials FJA are present and stand for Frank J Atwood. The barrel is a properly marked High Standard which is correct for that gun. The P proof marks are stamped where they should be located. There is a flaming bomb under the firing pin stop as there should be. There is also RIA stamped on the left side of the frame indicating that the gun was either inspected or rebuilt by the Rock Island Arsenal. I found that the frame has been ground on by someone for some unknown reason. This does not show and should not substantially affect the value of the gun. I did not know about the grinding before I paid $2100 for the pistol. Manufactured: October 30, 1944 by Ithaca gun company for the government and shipped to the Transportation Officer Benicia Ordnance Depot, Army Point, California; NOTE: There is a $25 transfer fee per firearm for transfer and/or processing payable to Gun World, whether the firearm is picked up or shipped

Irwin Pederson company is the rarest of the M1 carbine manufacturers. They built less than one per cent of the production. This rifle was arsenal rebuilt after the war, the rebuild mark on the stock is og which stands for Ogden Utah arsenal. Then it was sold through the DCM program. That is how George Kopp came to own it. This is a value added Carbine because of the company that manufactured it. It does have the correct type stock as listed in “War Baby” a collector’s guide to the carbine; the stock is marked s’g’ which is the mark for Saginaw gear in Grand Rapids, Michigan. That company finished the Irwin Pederson contract. It is in the first block of serial numbers given to the company. The barrel is marked Underwood which is correct for this manufacturer. The hammer is marked LT-Q. which stands for Quality Hardware. It has a flip safety. The slide is marked s’g’ as it should be, the mark is faint but visible. The receiver was manufactured by Springfield and is identified by the drawing number D652891 followed by the number 43. This is located on the receiver leg. The International Harvester name and serial number were stamped on the receiver by Harvester in the postage stamp configuration. This rifle is correct with a proper stock, an LMR 1953 barrel, and correct internal parts. The l952 sling is period correct. This is a very rarer rifle. 1953 International Harvester M1 Garand "Gap Letter- 4M SN Range" .30 Rifle
Lot 534:1953 International Harvester M1 Garand "Gap Letter- 4M SN Range" .30 Rifle

cal: .30, semi-auto, sn: 4659495, made in Evansville, IN from Mr. Davis's records: This rifle is a fine example of an International Harvester so called “gap letter” rifle. They are called by that name because of the way the information is laid out on the receiver and is a scarce variant. This rifle is one of the 22,000 gap letter rifles built by Harvester. Springfield made the receiver and Harvester marked them and used some Springfield parts in these rifles. This rifle appears correct for the time and variation that it is. The rifle is in excellent condition. It shows no sign of refinish or restoration, with finish better that 95%. The markings are correct, with the trigger housing, hammer, and safety, and the OP rod and bolt are IHC, as is the rear sight, and the front sight protector wings are correct also. The stock is properly marked with the cartouche on the left side and the number O R 2473 in the barrel channel. I purchased it on the internet for $2615. I have seen others in poorer condition sell for more. It should bring a premium price. , NOTE: There is a $25 transfer fee per firearm for transfer and/or processing payable to Gun World, whether the firearm is picked up or shipped

1955 International Harvester M1 Garand "Gap Letter- 5M SN Range" .30 Rifle
Lot 535:1955 International Harvester M1 Garand "Gap Letter- 5M SN Range" .30 Rifle

cal: .30, semi-auto, made in Evansville IN, sn: 5206499, from Mr. Davis's records: This rifle is an excellent example of a so called “gap letter” rifle in the 5 million serial number range. These rifles are so called because of the way the logo is stamped on the receiver. The receiver was made by Springfield and then the rifle was completed by Harvester. This rifle has all correctly marked International Harvester parts. I have verified all the numbers and they are all correct. The finish is very good to excellent. The stock is also properly numbered in the barrel channel 0055 denoting that it was put on the rifle in 1955. The cartouche is faint but visible and the proof mark on the stock is correct. I purchased the rifle from an individual in Montana. I paid $3250 for it. That is less by a few hundred dollars than others I have priced and they are not easy to locate. There were only a few over 13,000 made; it is the third rarest of the harvester variants., NOTE: There is a $25 transfer fee per firearm for transfer and/or processing payable to Gun World, whether the firearm is picked up or shipped

1953 International Harvester M1 Garand "Arrow Head" .30 Rifle COA of CMP
Lot 536:1953 International Harvester M1 Garand "Arrow Head" .30 Rifle COA of CMP

cal: .30, semi-auto, made in Evansville IN, see document, sn: 4440695, from Mr. Davis's records: This rifle was manufactured early in International’s production. The receiver was manufactured by Springfield and finished by International. These early rifles were marked in a distinct way that is called the “Arrow Head” there only around a thousand rifles produced and marked in this manner. This makes it the rarest of the International Harvester rifles. The rifle has a properly marked stock the marking is OR 2482. I purchased it from the CMP for $4001. With the additional IHC parts I have added it should sell for more than I paid. According to a posting on the CMP web site the op rod in this rifle is correct even though it is Springfield op rod. It seems that is the early production Harvester used some Springfield parts; this op rod has the correct drawing number. The barrel is marked LMR January 1953 which is correct. The barrel that I had replaced is in the safe. It is a March 1953 properly marked and should be sold with the rifle., NOTE: There is a $25 transfer fee per firearm for transfer and/or processing payable to Gun World, whether the firearm is picked up or shipped

cal: .30, semi-auto, made in Evansville, IN, see document, sn: 4441637, from Mr. Davis's records: This rifle was manufactured early in International’s production. The receiver was made by Springfield and marked by Harvester. The receiver was part of the quality control process to get Harvester’s production on track. The receiver is identified as Springfield by the three zeros stamped on the receiver they are small but easily seen if you look. This is another rare variation of the International Harvester produced M1 rifles. All the parts and the stock are correct and the barrel is LMR 1952. I purchased this rifle from Donnie Abbott. There is an article in the safe concerning the three zeros that should go with the rifle.
